Basum Lake
Also known as Cuogao Lake, Basum means “Green Water” in Tibetan. It is located in Cuogao Township, Gongbo'gyamda County, Nyingchi City, Xizang Autonomous Region, tucked in an alpine valley on the upper reaches of the Ba River, around 50 kilometers from downtown Gongbo'gyamda and roughly 360 kilometers from Lhasa, forming a pivotal stop on Xizang’s cultural and tourist itinerary
Lulang Forest Sea
Nestled in Lulang Town, Bayi District, Nyingchi City, Xizang Autonomous Region, Lulang Forest Sea sits at the heart of the seasonal national forest park, roughly 80 kilometers away from downtown Nyingchi (Bayi Subdistrict). The China National Highway 318 cuts across its territory, marking an iconic scenic spot along the Sichuan-Xizang Highway and a key node on Xizang’s cultural and tourism route. Meaning “Valley of Immortals and Blissful Abode” in Tibetan, Lulang has long been hailed with the local saying “Even immortals would linger and refuse to depart”. Namcha Barwa Peak
Namcha Barwa, meaning “Spear piercing the sky” in Tibetan, rises at an altitude of 7,782 meters on the eastern stretch of the Himalayas, where the Himalaya, Nyenchen Tanglha and Hengduan Mountain Ranges converge. Ranking as Nyingchi’s tallest peak and the world’s 28th highest mountain, it features a striking gigantic triangular summit frequently wrapped in thick snow and drifting mist, rarely unveiling its full outline, hence its moniker “Shy Maiden Peak”. Authoritatively named China’s Top Most Beautiful Mountain by China National Geography, it stands as an iconic landmark of Xizang’s snowbound terrain.
Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon
Nestled in Nyingchi City, Xizang Autonomous Region along the lower reaches of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, the canyon stretches from Damukou Village in Mainling Town northward to Baxu Village in Medog County southward, spanning a total length of 504.6 kilometers. With an average depth of 2,268 meters and its maximum depth reaching 6,009 meters, it has been authenticated as the world’s deepest grand canyon.Officially designated by China’s State Council in 1998, it earned national nature reserve accreditation in 2003 and was awarded China’s AAAAA-level scenic spot qualification in 2020. Ranked alongside the Potala Palace and Mount Qomolangma as three world-class signature tourist attractions of Xizang, the canyon carves a striking horseshoe-shaped bend around Namcha Barwa Peak, forming a spectacular natural landscape where towering mountains converge with surging rivers.
Sejila Mountain Pass
Situated in Bayi District, Nyingchi City, Sejila Mountain Pass sits on the core southern Sichuan-Xizang stretch of China National Highway 318 at an altitude of 4,728 meters, serving as an iconic landmark of Sejila National Forest Park. Geographically belonging to the eastern Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, the pass forms the natural watershed separating the Nyang River and Parlung Tsangpo River basins, and functions as a vital geographic barrier guiding warm, moist Indian Ocean monsoon into southeast Xizang. Roughly 60 kilometers away from downtown Nyingchi, it acts as a critical transportation hub linking central Nyingchi and the Lulang scenic cluster, an iconic must-stop for self-driving trips and highland sightseeing along the Sichuan-Xizang route.
Jokhang Temple
Nestled at the heart of the Barkhor Street in old-town Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region, Jokhang Temple sits 3,650 meters above sea level. Its Tibetan aliases Rasa Trulnang mean “Palace of Transcendental Enlightenment”. First founded in 647 AD (the 21st year of the Zhenguan Reign of the Tang Dynasty) under the patronage of King Songtsen Gampo of the ancient Tubo Kingdom, the temple boasts over 1,300 years of history.As Xizang’s best-preserved Tubo-dynasty edifice and the region’s earliest civil timber-frame architecture, it houses the Administrative Office of Xizang Autonomous Region Religious Affairs
Potala Palace
Located at No.35 North Central Road, Chengguan District, Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region, the Potala Palace perches atop Red Hill at an elevation of 3,700 meters, hailed as the Pearl atop the Snowland and one of the world’s most remarkable high-altitude palace complexes, also a core sacred site of Xizang Buddhism.
Suosong Village
1. Under the jurisdiction of Mainling Town, Mainling County, Nyingchi City, Xizang Autonomous Region, Suosong Village nestles halfway up the northern mountain slope of the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, facing Namcha Barwa Peak across the Yarlung Tsangpo River at an average altitude of around 3,000 meters. Composed of two natural hamlets, Suo and Bai, it is dominated by indigenous Xizang residents who have inhabited here for generations. In 2022, it was honored as a Provincial-level Characteristic Border Tourism Village of Xizang Autonomous Region, serving as a core folk settlement and landmark scenic spot within the grand canyon scenic area.
